I'll have to open by stating up front that I was not a fan of John
Denver, though he seemed to be a very sincere man and I did appreciate
his efforts to forward environmental causes.
However, it was still a shock to hear of the death of yet another musician, whose music I'd grown up with (even if I never listened to it!). By coincidence, I'd planned leave on a photo trip to California a day or two after he died flying his light plane, first to Mono Lake, then the Monterey area. After a week shooting around Mono Lake, I'd forgotten about the fact that he'd died in Pacific Grove. During my first day's scouting of the area, looking for good places to photograph birds, I walked along a Pacific Grove beach and came across flowers and other items that were left in memory of someone, then noticed a line drawing of John Denver.
Though not a fan myself, I know a retired wildlife biologist, also a marine veteran partially disabled in 'Nam, who is, so shot photos to show him upon my return to Portland.
Here are a few, offered without judgement nor commentary beyond the story
behind my taking them.
